PAINTINGS

Layered papers, fabrics, buttons and threads are combined together through hand and machine stitch, creating detailed paintings of decadent objects and accessories. Items such as old perfume bottles, shoes, jewellery, cutlery and crockery that perhaps have either been misplaced or discarded are rummaged out and made the focus of my drawing work.

Different background surfaces such as white cartridge paper, watercolour and hand made paper dramatically alters the overall appearance of the media that is applied. Paper and card are manipulated through processes including hand stitch and pinning vintage pieces of lace, netting and paper to the image. Watercolours ensure softness in shading and areas are defined through the application of ink and graphite. The aged and fragile appearance of my work is depicted though the colours and materials I choose to use.
