Traditional embroidery techniques include blanket stitch and straight stitch alongside using the sewing machine. Layering and manipulating various surface textures through painterly and hand stitch processes creates an aged and worn appearance within my work. Coffee and tea staining, waxing and trapping papers, fabrics, beads and buttons also form a signature style within my collection. The collaboration of mixed media enables me to communicate the qualities of the subject matter I am focusing on. Being selective over the skills that I apply to my drawing work is also essential. Other media that I use within my paintings include gold leaf, gouache, watercolour, inks and graphite.
