CUP CAKES

Embroidered silk organza and paper cup cakes intended for decoration within the home.

Little cup cakes made from fine silk organza and collected scraps of paper combine embroidery with 3D. Wire is used to make a frame before sheets of material are attached and layered. I wanted to develop my drawing work but as an alternative visual expression, and there is a clear association between these small objects and my water colour images especially in terms of colour and stitch. The tradition of tea time and the beautiful presentation of cutlery and crockery placed upon the table inspired the idea of making cupcakes and a cake stand.
